Paradise for Rent
Near Montpellier in South of France. Sleeps up to 19: perfect for multiple families. Still some availability in September 2022
The House and Gîte - Sleeps up to 19
The best of all worlds. Tranquility in the heart of a lively village with all amenities, including a boulangerie just outside the gates. Stay in and enjoy the gardens, play areas and large pool. Venture out to the beaches, the rivers, the Roman remains and lovely towns nearby. Stay in and eat al fresco or dine out in one of the myriad of local restaurants.

The Village, Aubais - Thriving
Over the road from the house is the village square where there is an obstacle course for kids, a skateboard park and a basketball court. There is also, naturally, an area for pétanque. On Tuesday mornings, there is market and there are often village gatherings and the occasional concert. Once a year in August, the village has its Fête Votive, when it is overrun with bulls. These two short video clips were taken during the 2018 fête. The first is of an 'apéro mousse' during the fête (best to watch it rather than try to describe it!). The second is taken from the top of our garden wall as the bulls are shepherded along the Main Street.

What is on the Doorstep?
SANDY BEACHES AND LOADS OF OTHER THINGS TO DO
The Mediterranean beaches are about 30 minutes away by car, and you are spoiled for choice. If you want facilities (including all the beach activities you may wish to partake in), try La Grande Motte. If you'd like miles and miles of wild beach (with horse riding available), try L'Espiguette. Also on your doorstep (i.e. a walk or a cycle) is Aubais' river beach on the Vidourle just next to a Knights Templar Mill. Here, you can also rent pedalos. Paddle upstream for some fantastic cliff jumping.
CHARMING VILLAGES TO EXPLORE AND EAT IN
Aubais is lovely and is nestled between some (nearly) equally lovely villages - which means there are plenty of places to eat out and to explore. In the village itself, there is a boulangerie with old fashioned croissants (the heavy really buttery kind), a grocer's, a cafe, a post office, a restaurant, a hairdresser's, a pizza takeaway, a youth club, a weekly market and a cashpoint. Around the village square, there is an obstacle course for kids, a basketball court, a skateboard park, and, of course, a pétanque area.
HISTORY AND CULTURE
We are positioned in between Montpellier (consistently voted as the city in which most French people would like to live) and Nîmes (with its Rome-rivalling amphitheatre in which concerts (and mock gladiator contests) are still staged. Both are about 30 minutes away by car. And then, of course, there is the Roman aqueduct / Pont du Gard, Arles, Avignon... I could go on. More to see and do than can be fitted into a single holiday.
ABOUT US
We are a family of 6 from the North of England that love the South of France. Marcus, pictured to the left helping a street performer at the weekly (Saturday) market in nearby Sommières, lived and played rugby in France before and during university and always wanted to return here. We initially bought a place in the Charente but found it too rainy and too overrun with English. Now we feel we have found the perfect spot. We are keen for our paradise to be used when we are not there - both to help pay for its upkeep and because we'd like local businesses to be supported... but we can be a bit picky about who we share it with.
