Canal du Midi

We occasionally get asked about the Canal du Midi which is to the West of us.  People often make an entire holiday out of cruising the canal but there are various points where you can take boat for a couple of hours, for instance at Villeneuve-les-Beziers (about 75 minutes by car).  You could combine this with visiting Beziers (on the canal) and Narbonne (on the Canal de la Robine which joins up with it), both of which have stunning cathedrals.  Narbonne has a beach made famous (with its painted huts) by the film ‘Betty Blue’.   Depending on how far you wish to venture, you could also go to Carcassonne (on the canal).  It is mobbed during the summer but impossibly beautiful.
